“I am very happy that we won this game. I’ll do whatever it takes. If it needs 16 points or other things. I’m in the mood for the team to win the games, especially with the schedule we have now, with the games close to each other and the absences.
This team is so unique, most of us players are very comfortable with our positions on the field. So one game can be “mine” and another can be Kanan’s or Walkup’s. It could still be Milutinov or Papanikolaou. Any of us can.
It has the same principles, but maybe it’s a slightly different group. We still have the same competitive philosophy, the same confidence, the same systems in which coach Bartzokas has placed us and puts them in training. It’s just that the players play somewhat different roles. We also have new players who have brought us their experience and are helping us, but we have kept our core and this allows us to know each other well. We have a great balance.
It is obvious that losing a player like Sasha, you feel it in the team. Because his contribution was very big in many games last season, scoring 20 points, creating and making moves. What he did was very special all year and that’s why he was named MVP. For me and anyone else it’s a matter of adjusting to the loss. You lose someone… You adapt and everyone else steps forward.
I think we’re still trying to get over it, but as the season goes on, we’ll get more comfortable. For me personally, yes, there are more opportunities, but as I said, I’m the same player I was last year, I’m just getting a little more time on the pitch. What Sasha did last year I have no words to describe. No one is here to try to fill their shoes. And I won’t be either. We may not have Sasha but we have other pieces with which we can build maybe a different mentality or a different style of play».
