Massa: “I was champion in 2008 and they stole me – I will go all the way”

by

Determined to assert his right to the end is Felipe Massa. Her Brazilian ex-pilot Formula 1 has… taken the FIA and the championship’s organizing authority to court over the way it lost the 2008 championship. For this reason, he has hired six lawyers, from as many different countries.

It is recalled that Massa had lost the title in 2008 literally in the last round, the last Grand Prix of the season, in Brazil. The then Ferrari driver took legal action from the moment it existed public admission that the Singapore Grand Prix was wrongly cancelled, when Nelson Piquet Jr had crashed deliberately to help his teammate Fernando Alonso win the race. This accident resulted in Massa not getting any points in that particular race, finishing 13th, while Lewis Hamilton with McLaren got 6 points, which enabled him to win the championship with 98 points, one more than the Brazilian.

We fight for sports justice. We await the explanations from the FIA and Formula 1 and we will see if we will appeal to CAS. Sure there can be demands for money as well, but my main demand is the championship. It is the most important thing for me, my struggle and my dignity. I didn’t get a championship I deserved, but I feel like a champion. They stole my title, no doubt. There was manipulation in Singapore and the result of that match had to be annulled. I will fight until the end because what happened was unfair to me, the sport, my country, Ferrari and its fans“, said Masha.

The now 42-year-old Brazilian finished his career in 2017 with 11 wins and 41 podiums, but no championship, having also finished third in the drivers’ standings in 2006.
