A great “double” for Kazakhstan, in…waiting for the Greek national team.
The Kazakhs they saved the good for last against Finland and celebrated a 2-1 upset victory, staying alive (albeit with slim hopes) for direct qualification to the Euro 2024 finals.
The hero for the guests was Zainutdinov, who turned the match around with his two goals, equalizing in the 77th minute with a penalty, while he signed the reversal in the 89th minute, sending the ball into the net after a corner kick. As a result, the ace of Besiktas became the top scorer in the history of Kazakhstan with 14 goals in 34 matches. Inter Miami midfielder Robert Taylor opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a free kick.
With this win, Kazakhstan reached 15 points, staying only in 3rd place, while Slovenia and Denmark, who later play Northern Ireland and San Marino away respectively, have 16 points each.
It is reminded that Kazakhstan is the dominant team to be on Greece’s road in the semi-finals of the Euro 2024 playoffs.
