De Laurentiis: “Players over 28 should not be called up to national teams”

by

A rather special opinion regarding the call-up of football players to their national teams was expressed by Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The owner of Napoli emphasized that players over 32 years of age should not be invited, but not even 28-year-olds. At the same time, he added that he would prefer them not to exist K21 and K19, as they do not have much visibility, but to have a single national team with 22 years old.

“From 2013 until now we have collected – I think – 4.3 million euros in compensation for the participation of our players in national team matches, even though more than 10 players have been called up. This is not good. In my opinion, 32-year-olds should not play in the national team, not even 28-year-olds.

And maybe they’re not really Italian. Today we have very strong footballers already at 18, but if they don’t play, how will they become champions?

I don’t want U21 or U19 which have little visibility and therefore less exploitation, I want a single national team with all young players, 22 years old at the most.

The club will have to decide whether to accept the call, to be able to say no to a friendly, for example. If I pay a player 50 million and he comes back injured he has to reimburse the club for the cost for as long as he has to be out. Now think of Neymar,” were his words De Laurentiis.
