Continuity on the courts: Waiting for the Juancar exams and the match sheet

by

A very bad day has dawned for Greek football. The summit derby between Olympic and Panathinaikosthe most commercial product of the Stoiximan Super League that is, was never completed after the firecracker was thrown and transportation of Juancar to the hospital.

After a long wait, just before midnight it was decided the final stoppage of the matchthe fate of which will be decided in the courtrooms and it is not excluded that it will reach the international courts. The Spanish full-back of Panathinaikos, who was clearly dazed and affected after the explosion that happened next to him while he was warming up, he was taken late at night by ambulance to “Hygeia”, where he spent the night.

Today is particularly important, at least in the first stage, for the fate of the race. And that’s because initially the results of Huancar’s tests are awaited. The match doctor reportedly stated that he was unable, without the proper medical equipment, to clearly state whether the footballer was fit to play or not. As he claimed in his post on social media (without clarifying whether he judged that the player was fit to play or not), he did not change his opinion but only described the progressive improvement of Huancar’s clinical picture in front of both teams’ orthopedic doctors. That is why Huancar’s tests are expected, as the results should describe the footballer’s clinical picture in detail.

Beyond that, it is also of particular importance what has been reported on the match sheet, which was not drawn up on the field, as planned, but the last information available was that it would be drawn up in the hotel that the Italian referee had stayed at. The reason was that apparently Fabio Maresca did not have a clear opinion on Juancar’s condition, since the match doctor stated that he was unable to provide it without the necessary tests. Therefore, the referee himself avoided taking a position for the reason that the match did not continue before he had something tangible in his hands.

In each case, the fate of the fight will be decided in the courtrooms. There it will be decided, apparently based on the results of the tests on Huancar and what is mentioned in the referee’s final… report, whether the match was interrupted due to Olympiakos’ fault after the player’s injury or not. And it is not at all improbable that the case will take some time to finalize even reaching the International Court of Sports (CAS).

Regarding the penalties, in the event of a final stoppage of the match due to the fault of the team if there is an injury from a thrown object, the match will be awarded in favor of the opposing team with goals 0-3 and a penalty of holding the match without spectators for two to four matches. Additionally, Article 21 of the CAC states that the guilty team is punished by deducting one point from the scoreboard, while a fine of between 30,000 euros and 150,000 euros is imposed.

If it is decided in the courtrooms that Panathinaikos withdrew from a match that was judged to have continued, then the KAP provides that “… if a team withdraws from a match after it has started, it is penalized by deducting five (5) points from the current and five (5) points from the next season and a fine of twenty (20,000) to two hundred thousand (200,000) euros”.
