Alexandros Nikolaidis unites Greece once again

With the global message “sport unites”, the Navarino Challenge, for the 11th year, on October 13-15, united people from 27 countries, through more than 55 activities and 20 Olympic sports in Costa Navarino and Pylos. Following the purpose of the Olympic Movement, in the presence of Olympians and Paralympians, this year’s Navarino Challenge had more than 3,500 entries, people of all ages and abilities. The organization of the Navarino Challenge could of course never forget, the top athlete-model, two-time Olympic silver medalist of taekwondo, Alexandros Nikolaidis.

An evening and award dedicated to Alexandros Nikolaidis

On Saturday night, a special awards night was held dedicated to the people who have contributed to Greek sports and written their own history, which was full of memories, emotions and sports stars. The presentation of the evening was undertaken by the presenter Dora Anagnostopoulou. In the context of the awards, exactly one year after the death of the two-time silver Olympic medalist of taekwondo Alexandros Nikolaidis, the organization fulfilled the wish of Alexander’s family by establishing, through the Navarino Challenge and with the permission of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the “Alexander Nikolaidis” award . In the presence of the wife of Doras Tsambazis, their daughter and the Secretary General of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Mr. Manolis Kolymbadis, the 1st prize “Alexanders Nikolaidis” was given to the Olympic pole vaulter Emmanuel Karalis who stands out for his ethics, commitment and his morality. The President of the O.O.E. addressed his greeting via video. Mr. Spyros Kapralos.

Immediately after the relevant award, the journalist Dora Tsambazi said: “I would like to thank the Navarino Challenge and the ActiveMedia Group for thinking and implementing an award that bears the name of Alexandros and symbolizes everything that he stood for. I thank the E.O.E. for her presence and participation in this award that will be held every year as an institution. Emmanuel Karalis is a special athlete and a brilliant example of effort, respect, solidarity, a giving person with a bright smile. I’m sure that if Alexandros could somehow magically indicate to us who he would like the first award named after him to go to, he would choose Karalis. The evening was beautiful and moving and we honored his memory as he deserves.”

The video created for Alexandros Nikolaidis is a symbolic movement of cooperation of all the major sports sites that shows not only the values ​​that Alexandros represented but also the greatness of Sports. This year’s program of the Navarino Challenge included taekwondo classes powered by The Vegetarian Butcher in memory of Alexandros Nikolaidis, with the gold medalist Michalis Mouroutsos in the presence of the world champion in taekwondo Aretis Athanasopoulos with the participation of athletes from the taekwondo club AGS Kalamata.
