by

The die is cast! THE Maccabi Tel Aviv permanently “moves” to Serbia and the Belgradewhere it will play its home games in Euroleaguedue to the war situation prevailing in Israel and the Gaza Strip.

At today’s meeting of Euroleague shareholders in Istanbul, the final decision was made on the future of the “people’s team”, which will now play its home games in “Aleksandar Nikolic Hall” and not in the “Stark Arena”, where both Red Star and Partisan compete in the tournament.

The beginning will take place opposite the Bayern Munich on November 9 for the 9th matchday of the Euroleague, while it is worth emphasizing that the game against Real Madrid for the 8th round of the competition (2/11) was postponed and will take place at a later date.

The Euroleague announcement in detail:

“At a meeting held in Istanbul on October 24, the shareholders of Euroleague Commercial Assets agreed that Maccabi Tel Aviv will play all their next home matches at the Aleksandar Nikolic Hall in the Serbian capital, Belgrade.

Maccabi will play their first home game there against Bayern Munich on November 9. Maccabi’s 6th round meeting with Real Madrid, originally scheduled for November 2, has been postponed and will be played at a later date.

This decision was made considering the impossible nature of hosting games in Tel Aviv due to security concerns stemming from the ongoing armed conflict in the region.

Maccabi Tel Aviv has received the support of the Municipality of Belgrade and the Serbian Government and will participate in talks to design the necessary security measures that protect the integrity of all individuals, which remains the absolute priority for Euroleague Basketball and its clubs. Said security measures will be presented to the Euroleague Basketball offices and to the other teams for review.

Euroleague Basketball (EB) has asked Hapoel Tel Aviv to present an alternative arena located outside of Israel to host the upcoming BKT EuroCup home games.

EB will continue to monitor the development of the situation, staying in touch with all related parties and will announce any modifications regarding the above decisions if necessary.”
