Almeida: “If the referee made a mistake, now it’s too late – Confidence in Stankovic”

by

About AEK’s defeat by Marseille, he spoke at the press conference Matias Almeida.

The technician of “Union” did not want to stop at arbitration decisions of Stefanski, while he also spoke about his mistake and expulsion Stankovic, wanting to show his confidence in the Austrian goalkeeper.

In detail what he said:

“The truth is that I, too, am looking to find out what happened. On the other hand I separate the game. Certainly these things differentiate the game. But I can’t just stop at that. I’m only keeping the five, six minutes of the second half. The first half is about what happens in Europe when they play at home. Some phases were created by the opponent but they were under control. After the first penalty, the match changes. After the first comes the second and there it all ends. We have to continue, I congratulate the opponent and if the referee made a mistake, now it’s too late”

On what he said to his players after such a match:

“I always try to take the right time to express what I feel. I will always trust the footballers. And especially when they are wrong. Because we are a team. When things go well, we are happy, when they don’t go well, we fight to make things go well. We have three games ahead of us. We are in the organization. I am left with a strange feeling that if we had stayed with eleven players, we would have seen a different spectacle.”

A comment on Stankovic’s unfortunate moment:

“I think both he and I know the mistake. When a goalkeeper makes a mistake, he usually pays for it. But it doesn’t change the way I think about the goalkeeper. Because we all make mistakes in life. We all saw the mistake, he knows it too, but he will learn from the mistake. And he can change the match from that energy, but in previous matches, he took some balls that went into the net. Now we have to trust him.”

For the match with PAOK:

“I am taking the position of the players and I would like to play tomorrow with PAOK. We must have this thought. Let’s distinguish the events we have. We lost to a great opponent. I congratulate the opponent. And in the championship we will try to chase what we do. And we will face one of the opponents who play the best football in the league.”
