Martinez: “We want to serve our philosophy according to the conditions”

by

Diego Martinez spoke to the Cosmote TV camera about the philosophy that has passed to Olympiakos, as well as the 9th matchday matchup with OFI in the Stoiximan Super League.

The coach of the “red and whites” emphasized that every game has a different story and his team should adapt to this philosophy, while among other things he praised OFI.

Analytically:

On whether the team is at the level he had in mind when he came to Olympiakos:

“Yes, of course, this is the path we want to follow. However, it wasn’t the first time it happened. I think we have shown something like this in other games as well. The quality in our game, the very good organization, the ability to respond to different situations. We are a team that works hard to handle all situations and that takes advantage of good results to boost its confidence. »

On whether he plans to play three central midfielders again on Monday:

“I think every game is a different story. You have also been in football for many years and it is understood that we cannot put things in “boxes”. You can never say in a game that if I play this way I will win or if I play another way I will lose. I don’t think there are any such rules. Football is a game where many things are relative. All of us here are participating in a process. A process that takes time, that requires a lot of work and that we are constantly trying to respond to in order to improve. Therefore depending on the opponent there are games where we can use a different system. What we want is to respond to every situation, regardless of the system. In no case can we say that this is the system that suits us and we will go with it in all games. We want to serve our philosophy according to the conditions every time. Again, it’s a process that takes time and we’re very pleased with the way it’s progressing.”

For the match against OFI:

“Regarding the game against OFI, we have to rest, see which players will be available because we don’t know. Some are beat, some are tired. The game against West Ham may have filled us with happiness, but it has cost us a lot in energy, in strength, mentally as well as physically and we have to see how we manage. We have to be as good as we can because we will face one of the best teams in the Greek league. A team that is very well organized, offensively, defensively, tactically. They are always ready to pressure the opponent. Inside their stadium they have won 10 out of 12 points. They will have a “hot” atmosphere. Good for them, bad for us. Therefore maximum concentration is required from us. We have to be fully prepared to be able to get the victory in one of the most difficult games we will play this year.

We must be very careful and not lose a moment of our concentration. We will need to do many things well and have very good organization in our game. We have to adapt within the game because many things can happen during the match. However, it is very important for us to have identity, personality, character and faith in our philosophy. We believe too much in ourselves. I am very proud of my players and my team because to a very large extent we have mastered the philosophy and the character we want to have. We are the team that has scored the most goals in the league and the one that has conceded the fewest. Things that fill us with confidence and that’s how we want to continue.”
