A very beautiful wood-carved statue, three meters high, in the form of the founder of Panathinaikos, Georgios Kalafatis, now adorns the door leading to “Pavlos Giannakopoulos”!
The relevant announcement in detail:
«The Panathinaikos Athletic Club celebrates its 114th birthday and this year it celebrates it with a special surprise for its “eternally loyal” fans indoors on the Avenue!
The Association now has in a prominent position the man who inspired Panathinaikos Georgios Kalafatis with a wood-carved statue located at the entrance of the closed “Pavlos Giannakopoulos”.
The “clover” in collaboration with the fan of the “clover” George Koutsoumpos, who was inspired and proceeded to the implementation of the statue, will have the founder of the Association at the entrance of the closed, thus honoring in a special way the “green” history.
The specific fan of the “clover” made the specific decision about 2 years ago together with other friends of the Association. In order to collect the required amount (approximately 15,000 euros) for the statue, pieces of his personal collection of Panathinaikos from jerseys etc … were sold and auctioned.
Although the amount could be found in various ways, it was considered more appropriate for the participation of Panathinaikos fans to be collective.
The pieces were auctioned through this page https://www.facebook.com/Collectors1908-227633264589918/
Regarding the characteristics of the statue, it is a three-meter-high wood carving, the trunk of the tree (silver and white) is about 120 years old and the sculptor of the work is Angelos Patsiatzis “.
