What the autopsy showed about the causes of death of the young whale

The necropsy of the young whale was completed, which after successive appearances in the previous days on the coast of Attica, was located dead yesterday in the sea area of ​​the Kinosura Peninsula in Salamis.

The necropsy, which lasted nine hours, was performed under the scientific supervision of Natassa Komninou, Professor of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), with the participation of six veterinarians, three biologists and an environmentalist.

According to the autopsy, the possible causes of death of the mammal are attributed to “severe chronic arteritis and severe renal parasitism from Crassicauda spp”.

Chronic severe arteritis of the abdominal aorta, gastrointestinal artery and mesenteric arteries.

● Severe parasitism.

. Severe weight loss, ie significant weight loss due to illness.

● The gastrointestinal tract was empty, suggesting that the animal had been feeding for a long time.
