A few 24 hours after the successes of the Greek athletes in the European Taekwondo Championship for boys and girls, great news came from World Taekwondo and they concern the Greek participation in the Grand Prix final that will take place in Manchester on the weekend of 2-3 December.
For the first time in the history of the institution, Greece will have quadruple representation in the final Grand Prix, where the top 16 athletes of the Olympic categories will participate. Specifically, Apostolis Telikostoglou (-80kg), Dionysis Rapsomanikis (-58kg), Konstantinos Hamalidis (-68kg) and Phaedra Kaltekis (-57kg), members of the pre-Olympic team established by the Hellenic Taekwondo Federation, will travel to Manchester.
“With the news we received today from World Taekwondo, another stronghold has fallen. The news we had during the year was pleasant and we expected this particular development. Its officialization makes us especially happy, since the majority of the members of the pre-Olympic team established by ELOT will be present in Manchester. We wish everyone good success”, said the president of ELOT, Michalis Physentzidis.
And he concluded: “The Hellenic Olympic Committee undoubtedly has a share in the successes of the pre-Olympic team, since with its financial support it contributes to the realization of the competitive programming that ELOT has done since the first day of its establishment. At the same time, I would like to say a big thank you to the Minister of Sports, Yannis Vroutsis, who has been with us since the first day of assuming his duties”.
Telikostoglou and Rapsomanikis also participated in last year’s Grand Prix final, while Kalteki will become the first Greek Olympic taekwondo athlete to take part in this event.
