Mamadou Sakho has left Montpellier following an incident at the Ligue 1 side’s training center last week, the French defender has said.
French media reported that the 33-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool centre-back had allegedly fallen out with manager Michel Der Zakarian.
Sakho, who is capped 29 times, moved to Montpellier from Crystal Palace in 2021.
“You have to know how to walk away when there is no respectSako said on Instagram. “Following the incident that took place last week at the training center, for which I disclaim any responsibility, I have decided… to end my association with Montpellier“, he added.
Montpellier, for its part, announced that the two sides decided to end their partnership after 10 days of discussions.
“In the last 10 days there has been a media frenzy around the club, specifically a “clash” between Michel Der Zakarian and Mamadou Sakho“, the French club said in its statement and adds:
