Bankston: ‘Rockets and gunfire could be heard from my house in Israel’

by

The 24-year-old center of Aris spoke on ERT’s “Jambol” show, Chris Buckstonrevealing the very difficult moments he experienced during his stay in Israel, where he was playing for Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

After noting that he could hear the rockets and gunfire from his home, he added that he was praying for those still there, and then talked about his time on Mars so far.

In detail what he said:

On the choice to go to Hapoel Be’er Sheva, while in the summer there was also interest from Ari: “Yes I went to Israel, they have a great team and I love them, but with the difficult conditions I had to leave. I wanted to come here to Mars from the beginning, but they chose someone else… Finally I came, maybe it was karma. I have a contract for three years at Hapoel but I would be very happy if I stayed at Aris”.

About the difficult situations he lived in Israel: “It was an extremely difficult thing to deal with, thankfully I’m gone and I’m praying for those who are still there. We could hear the rockets from my house. It was scary, especially since my girlfriend and son were with me. My priority was to get away with my family so they are all safe. I didn’t want to wait and see what happens, I had to make a decision. I love my son, I have now changed my way of thinking”.

On what Aris likes: “Before I even came to Greece, what impressed me were the sports fans. They’ve been showing me a lot of love since I joined the team. They supported me and I thank them for their welcome”.

I like to play above the rim, to dunk. The coach is in favor of the defense, he talks to us all the time and I always try to be better to meet the demands of the team”.

On the defeat to Cluj: “It was a difficult defeat for the team”.
