Conor Baron attributed Aberdeen’s defeat by PAOK in Scotland to misfortune in his statements to the Daily Record. The Scotland ace referred to the first match between the two sides where the Northern Biceps prevailed 3-2 with an upset, but also the game ahead of the two sides on Thursday in Toomba.
His statements in detail…
For the match against PAOK in Toumba:
“If you look at the game against Hacken, Helsinki, PAOK and Frankfurt – every game we played we should have had a result. We were just unlucky. Whether that’s because we’re new to the competition and some players haven’t played there, I don’t know. We get confidence from each of these games. We learn from it and continue to take the positives and the negatives.”
For the first game of the two teams:
“Yes, we could have managed the game a bit better. As players on the field, we should have read the match better. It was difficult. We didn’t really realize it until a few days later. But that’s football when you play against top teams and top players. Every time you pass the ball, you know you’re going to be punished.
Unfortunately, we stopped playing at critical points in the match and it cost us in the end. We scored two goals against one of the best teams in Greece, because they are a top team, so we have to take confidence from that. And from the way we played in the first 70 minutes.”
For the atmosphere of Toumba:
“These are the atmospheres we want to play in. Here we have at Ibrox, Celtic Park and Pittodrie.”
For the Scots who will be in Thessaloniki:
“The fans help us as they follow us everywhere and in Europe too. We can really use that to our advantage and take it out on the field. All the players have played in front of big crowds. We have experienced footballers like Shinnie, Hayes and Roos who have played at that level. The way these teams try to play football suits me too. I love testing myself against the best players out there. We’ve faced very good teams, but we’ve been unlucky in games where we didn’t get the results we should have. We can take confidence from the performances of the last few weeks and get results.”
