For her game Wren with Panathinaikos for the 4th matchday of the Europa League group stage (9/11, 19:45), the French coach spoke at the press conference, Bruno Genesio.
Among other things, he referred to tough situation prevailing in the ranks of the team, due to the poor results in Ligue 1, but also for the shots for tomorrow’s match.
How do you explain the negative results in the French league?
“I trust my team, I have enough explanations but I won’t give them to you now. I trust this team and we are capable of overcoming the obstacles in front of us. Those who question it, it’s their own issue.”
What are your plans ahead of the match against Panathinaikos?
“There is a lot of competition. However, we have settled on a stable lineup. Our first halves are good, but we don’t manage to get what we deserve. The choices were not wrong. The footballers who did not play against Nice are at my disposal and may play against Panathinaikos”.
How do you explain that in Europe you play well, but not in the league?
“It’s hard to explain. In the Europa League we have a lot to achieve but we do not have the obligation to win the trophy. But you saw what Sevilla and West Ham did in Europe when they were not doing well in their league. In the championship, probably, we have pressure that does not allow us to be confident. This is also the reason why we make careless mistakes”.
Negative results bring the coach to the fore. How do you live this?
“I have experience in this, I have lived through more difficult times. I have learned not to worry about what is written, I don’t deal with social media. Some may misunderstand, but I don’t read newspapers. I think, of course, about what I might be doing wrong and take responsibility. I talk to my players and partners to see their responses. The diagnosis can be made by many, the difficult thing is to find the solution to the problem. It’s a period I think about a lot.”
Is there a pressure issue for you too?
“No, I just want to win the two matches to get a good place in the group for the next round. That’s all I can think of, no pressure. Pressure is not a good doctor and does not bring good results. I’m realistic, but I’m under no pressure.”
Will you make changes on Sunday?
“Yes, I have a lot of questions regarding both the match against Panathinaikos and the one on Sunday. We have to adapt to the many games we have to play.”
