Chapecoense announces that it is in the process of judicial recovery

by

Chapecoense announced this Friday (4) that it is in the process of judicial recovery. The club filed the request at the 1st Civil Court of the District of Chapecó and was answered by judge Ederson Tortelli.

The measure was taken in a context of extreme financial difficulty for the association, which has a debt of around R$ 100 million. The idea is to find a way to manage the payment of amounts to creditors, among which are the families of the victims of the plane crash that killed 71 people in 2016, among players and other professionals.

“Chapecoense suffers from a serious illness, we are vegetating. Unfortunately, for every serious illness, the remedy is bitter. And often, we need to dare with special treatments”, said the club’s administrative vice president, Luiz Peruzzolo.

“We have a long way to go. It started now, but it has a whole structure and planning. We had the support of the deliberative council”, added Chapecoense’s vice president of marketing, Alex Passos.

In this context, the relatives of the victims of the plane crash await. There was an agreement for the payment of compensation in 26 actions against the club, which, however, began to delay the installments. According to the leaders, it was impossible to honor the commitment and maintain the activities.

The team’s relegation to the second division of the Brazilian Championship increased the difficulties. In Serie B, revenues are much more modest.

The deliberative council of the Santa Catarina club had already approved the club-company model, along the lines of SAF (Sociedade Anônima do Futebol). Now, he has given his blessing for judicial recovery.
