With 17 goals in 11 matches, Harry Kane is breaking one record after another with Bayern Munich. But the big challenge for the English striker is none other than the record set by Robert Lewandowski to the Bavarians.
For 50 years, the previously impossible record of 40 goals achieved by Gerd Müller with Bayern in the 1971/72 season, was a benchmark for fans of the German league.
That is, until the Polish striker came along, who in the best season of his career in 2020/21, managed to score the 41st goal, in the last minute of the match (5-2 win) against Augsburg.
At the time, many would have thought that this achievement it will hardly be brought down soon from another football player!
The following yearLewandowski scored “only” 35 goals, while Erling Haaland was at his best, scoring 27 and 22 goals in two full seasons with Dortmund.
The start, however, that Kane makes in the German league, having even a hat-trick in the ‘Klassiker’ against Borussia and at the weekend he managed, with two more goals, to reach 17 goals in 11 matches for the Munich club.
The last player who had back-to-back hat-tricks was Mario Gomes and Kane already has three hat-tricks in the Bundesliga, equaling Köln’s Christian Müller’s feat in 1964/65!
Kane’s “explosion” on German soil it has managed to take him to the top of the Bundesliga scorers’ table, having reached 17 goals, two more than Stuttgart’s Seru Girassi who is injured this season. The only player in the 60-year history of the German league to have 15 goals after 10 games was Gerd Müller, who did something similar in the 1968/69 season.
The Bomber could not maintain the same scoring rate and he had another 15 goals in the rest of the season, finishing that year with 30 goals to his credit.
