Almeida: “I’m in a place where I’m happy”

by

The Mexican network TUDN spoke to Matias Almeida. The Argentinian coach said he is happy with what he has in the AEK, while he deified Orbelin Pinedas to his compatriots. In detail, what “Pelados” said about:

-his course at AEK: “It was a good choice. I came here and we managed to win the double for the third time in the last 100 years. It is something very strong. I’m in a place where I’m happy.”

-how he experienced the end of his football career: “I played football, I retired, I suffered, I was depressed, I came back and became a coach. I went through all the stages a football player goes through. I can convey to you everything I experienced with many of my teammates, who went through exactly the same thing.”

-the secret of a successful team: “For a team to work, the person who mows the grass must be happy and feel respected, like the security guard, the secretaries, the driver. I always try to connect with the places I’m in.”

– Orbelin Pineda: “We talk about humility, joy, unity, team. What does Pineda have? All the above. Pineda comes in to play the same game in the best stadium in the world and I saw him play in Mexico the same way. The ability to adapt is indicative of his humility. He doesn’t forget where he comes from and is a great player. With a bit of international exposure from the press, I think, because he’s Mexican.”

-his tenure at Chivas: “The most beautiful thing was the love I got in Chivas, the titles but I tell you: With how much pain I managed to win. The pain was great. They were annoyed that I was talking to the players who deserved respect. I know it annoyed them but I have a clear conscience. But no matter how much it bothers them, they can’t take my titles. They cannot erase history, history has been written.”
