The Life and Work of the Late June Carter Cash illuminates a new documentary titled “June” premiering on Paramount+ on January 16, 2024.

Directed by Emmy Award-winner Kristen Vaurio, the film chronicles the story of the five-time Grammy Award-winning singer, comedian, musician, actress and author.

The documentary will feature archival footage shown for the first time along with interviews with June Carter Cash, her loved ones and Dolly Parton, Reese Witherspoon and Willie Nelson.

The film focuses on Carter Cash’s legacy, beyond her relationship with her husband, country legend Johnny Cash.

She’s a woman many people know, but few know much about her remarkable life and profound contributions to country music.“, said Kristen Vaurio.

Carleen Carter, daughter of June Carter Cash and her first husband, Carl Smith, added: “The film offers a great opportunity to realize that June was a TV and music star from an early age – decades before she became ‘Mrs. Johnny Cash.’ ».

He starred in films on the screen with Robert Duvall and Jane Seymour, sang in concerts before Elvis Presley and co-wrote the song “Ring of Fire”.

These are just a few of June Carter Cash’s often overlooked accomplishments. The film will also highlight the Carter and Cash family’s impact on country music history.

Carter Cash lived from an early age surrounded by influential figures in country music. Members of the Carter family were among the first artists to record their music during the Bristol Sessions in the 1920s in Bristol, Tennessee. “Mother” Mabel Carter helped change the way artists approached the guitar. Artists still use the ‘Carter Scratch’ style that Mabel Carter helped develop.

AP Carter recorded folk songs from the Appalachian hills and brought them to the masses. In short, the Carter family’s influence on country music is truly enormous, says the description of the documentary produced by Sandbox Productions, Sony Music Entertainment and Maxine Productions, which had its world premiere at the NYC DOC Festival on November 12.
