«The Hellenic Volleyball Federation announces the beginning of the cooperation with the renowned Italian coach Marcello Abbondanza. His recruitment for the technical leadership of the National Women was approved by the Board of Directors held on Friday, February 4, 2022 and will last for two years.

Marcello Abondanza, whose CV demonstrates the greatness of the new collaborator of our National band, has a unique mandate to continue the upward course and create the conditions for the new generation of Greek women’s volleyball to be surpassed.

The discussions with Marcello Abondanza had started a long time ago and is considered a significant success, not only for the administration of the Hellenic Federation that created the ideal conditions to achieve the new cooperation, but also the very good, rich and quality material that the Greek women’s volleyball at all levels.

In the following days, E.O.PE. will announce the official arrival of Marcelo Abudanza in Greece to sign the contracts and to officially announce the new goals and the new partners who will accompany him.

The biography of Marcello Abudanza

Marcello Abondanza was born on August 24, 1970 in Cesena, Italy.

In 1996, at the age of 26, he signed a contract with Ravenna as an assistant coach. Ravenna was then playing in A2 Italy and was promoted to A1.

From 1998 to 2000 he was an assistant coach at Bergamo and a season later signed a contract with Forl ως as the team’s first coach.

In 2001 he moved to Mazzano, where he remained until 2003 as head coach.

From 2003 to 2006 he was on the bench of Scavolini Pesaro.

From 2006 to 2008 he was under the technical leadership of Montesciano Jesse.

In 2009 he signed for Villa Cortese and remained for three years.

In 2012 he moved to Azerbaijan and signed with Rabita Baku.

From 2013 to 2017 he was in Turkey and at the helm of Fenerbahce.

In the 2018-19 season, he was in Poland as the coach of Chemik Polis.

From 2019 until today it is on the bench of Turkish Airlines Sports Club.

At the national level, he has successfully coached the National Team of Bulgaria (2011-2014) and the National Team of Canada (2017-2019).

In the three years 1997-2000 he won two Champions Leagues, an Italian championship and 2 Italian Super Cups as assistant coach of Bergamo.
