Hispanic-Brazilian Manex Silva, 19, made his Olympic debut in cross-country skiing this Sunday (6), at 4 am, at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, but did not finish the men’s skiathlon event, when he received an extra lap. of the participants leading the contest.

The gold medal went to Alexander Bolshunov of the Russian Olympic Committee.

Of the 70 participants who started the race, at least 16 did not finish because they were one lap behind the leaders.

By the rules of the sport, when a competitor places a lap over another, the participant who is late is removed from the event.

Manex Salsamendi Silva was born in Acre to a Brazilian mother and a Spanish father. The skier has lived in Spain since he was two years old.

At the Beijing Olympic Games, the athlete will once again represent Brazil in cross country skiing on the 8th, in the sprint – freestyle modality; 11th, in the 15 km – classic style; and on the 19th, at the 50 km mass start – freestyle.

In Cross-Country Skiing, athletes cover varying distances in speed and endurance events. The event has been on the Olympic program since the first edition in 1924.

In Beijing, there will be 12 competitions, six for women and six for men (classic, skiathlon, free speed, classic team speed, relay and free mass start), with different types of start and ski techniques.
