Vassaras: “Every year UEFA urges me to deal with refereeing in Greece, but conditions of fear prevail”

The former international referee and for nine consecutive years head of refereeing in Romania, Kyros Vassarasin an interview with “Freedom of Larissa” revealed that every year UEFA urges him to take up refereeing in Greece. He himself, however, refuses to return, as, as he says, “the conditions do not exist to produce work and not fear for yourself and your family».

Among other things, moreover, he said:I saw France-Greece from my mobile phone, because I was also watching the Romania match. Romania qualified for the finals and I saw the effort from the Greek kids. I hope that in the barrage with Kazakhstan, Greece will go to the finals of the pan-European tournament. He has young children, with stubbornness and passion. The Greek teams have progressed to the next competitions and it is positive.

However, there is still toxicity, which does not help anyone, especially the National Team. Greek arbitration is languishing. We are the only country in Europe where foreign referees come. The other country is Saudi Arabia. I am very afraid that the new guys will not be directed to arbitration if there is not a basis. There is still the cycle of violence towards referees, which does not close. These should concern everyone before it is too late».
