The match
Olympiacos started with Fal, Peters, Papanikolaou, Kanan and Walkap, while Peristeri bwin with Thompson, Hougaz, Williams, Ragland and Poulianiti. Better start from the “red and whites”, who went to +5 (7-2) in the first three minutes, with the visitors getting closer to the point (9-8) thanks to their offensive rebounds, in the 5th minute. Then, the Piraeus players took out defenses, forcing Spanoulis’ team to miss many shots and running in the open court with Kanan, Milutinov and Peters escaped to +12 (22-10), in the 8th minute. Dangubitz temporarily slowed down, to be followed by a personal 5-0 run by Walkup for +15 (27-12) and Hunts to make it 27-14 in the first period.
Peristeri bwin took advantage of the repeated mistakes of Olympiakos at the beginning of the second quarter and, with Hunts, reduced the distance to single digits (27-19) in the first two minutes. The reaction of the “red and white” came from Milutinov and Larentzakis initially for +14 (37-24) and then for +15 (40-25), in the 17th minute. There, the players of Bartzokas threw… turns and the visitors with Williams and Kaselakis ran an 8-0 run (40-33). In the last minute, the only thing that changed was 3/4 from Sikma and Luntzis, for +10 (43-33) in the first half.
A strong start from Olympiakos in the second half and with Walkap in front offensively, it escaped to +17 (52-35), in the first three minutes. The visitors responded with three-pointers from Poulianitis, Williams and Ragland, making individual scores 3-11 and reducing the difference (55-46) at 25′. The reaction of the Piraeus came from Walkap, who with a personal outburst again sent the difference to + (63-48), in the 28th minute. In the final minutes, Peristeri bwin went on a 4-0 run, making it 63-52 in the third period.
With Walkap and Larentzakis almost… monopolizing the attack at the beginning of the fourth period, Olympiacos escaped to +19 (73-54), at 33′. Then, the “red and white” relaxed and Williams with his three-pointers reduced the difference (76-65), in the 36th minute. From that point on, the pace of the match remained high, with the Piraeus in control and reaching victory with the final 87-74.
