PAOK won the ninth consecutive football championship and the 18th in total in its history, thus becoming the 203rd best team in the competition and was awarded by PSAPP on Monday at the Association’s event held at the Concert Hall.
The top player was Vasia Giannaka and the top newcomer was Georgia Chalatsogianni, both of the “two-headed”.
The captain, Thomais Vardali, said: “Thank you to PSAPP for honoring us again with this award and for its contribution to women’s football. He is doing everything he can, just like the president, Giorgos Bandis, to make women’s football equal to men’s.
We are here for another year, hopefully for years to come. It’s not as easy as it seems to be at the top, it’s easy to get there but hard to stay.
I want to thank the coaches, the administration, Thanasis Katsaris and PAOK PAOK for the continuous support to our department”.
Last season’s top Greek player, Vasia Giannaka, said: “Thank you to PSAPP for supporting and highlighting women’s football, we want it to take it where it deserves to be for equality. I thank my family, PAOK and my previous team, Messolonghi. We want people to keep coming to see us on the field, giving us strength.”
Georgia Chalatsogianni, the best new player of last season, added: “I would like to point out that the mentality of the team has kept it at the top for so many years and the personality of the players who stand out at this level. The award motivates me to constantly improve, I thank my family, PAOK, who provide me with all the conditions to train properly and my coach, Lefteris Kanata, who played a decisive role in my development”.
