Greece learned its opponents on the way to the Olympic Games, as well as the schedule of the games, which will take place at the SEF from July 2 to 7.
Her legend National Team and now general manager of the “blue and white” gave his own opinion on the teams that the lottery brought her way, while he invited the people to fill the SEF to support this great effort.
In detail what he said:
“The most important fact is that we will organize in Greece, in Piraeus, a very big tournament after 16 years. It is a great pleasure and honor to organize such tournaments and a great responsibility for the federation to have a good event, which I think we will do well in this area.
It is also very important that the world embraces this effort and I think that the fans are “thirsty” for matches of this level, since we have many years to organize such a tournament in the country, in addition to the important ones that take place in the context of preparation.
Competitively it is understood that it is still too early to say anything, apart from the most important thing which is that all our athletes have good years with their teams and of course be healthy approaching the big goal. This way we will all be able to be together, united, to make the best possible effort for the great pursuit, the great goal, qualifying for the Olympic games.
Regarding the draw, one sees the world ranking and that says it all. Three teams in the top 20, New Zealand one place down and fifth, they have lost ground in recent years, but when you talk about Croatia and the material they have available, I think the strength is great.
Given that, it is a very demanding tournament, not only for the level of the teams even if the rosters in such cases are formed at the last hour and due to many conditions, but also because we traditionally see in Olympic years that most athletes have a huge motivation to compete and claim the dream of participating in Olympic games.
There is, however, another element that needs to be highlighted and that is the difficult format of the event. In six days the teams that make it to the end will be forced to play four games, possibly five days depending on the schedule and this is a very demanding fixture calendar so we should be fully prepared in all respects for to realize the big sporting dream of qualification.
I say again, however, that it is a very big event that after 16 years our country will host a very important and very high level tournament. I was also fortunate as an athlete to participate in the 2008 Pre-Olympics through which we got our last qualification for the Olympic Games and I know how important it is for the sports fans to embrace the effort and come to support the team, to do what we are used to we say the sixth player”.
