All eyes are on the efforts of the three Greek teams tonight in the final of their groups Europa League. AEK, Panathinaikos and Olympic they want at least a draw against Ajax, Maccabi Haifa and Bacca Topola to continue their European run in the Conference League knockout stages as third in their groups and enter Monday’s draw in Nyon.
In total 12 teams have already secured qualification from the group stage, before this last game. For nine of those teams, however, the job is not yet done as they head into matchday six looking to top their group and progress directly to the last 16 by avoiding an extra round of the knockout round play-offs against a from the third-party teams that will withdraw from the Champions League.
As is known, the winners of the eight groups automatically advance to the “16”. Knockout play-offs will then take place before the round of 16, with the eight group runners-up pitted against the third-placed teams from the Champions League groups. The third-placed teams in the Europa League advance to the knockout round play-offs of the Europa Conference League.
