by

Her game Bournemouth with the Luton for the 17th matchday of the Premier League was interrupted in the 65th minute. The visitors’ captain, Tom Lockyer, suddenly collapsed in the center of the ‘Vitality’ pitch and everyone was shocked, with medical staff from both teams rushing to give him first aid.

After a few minutes, the Welsh centre-back was carried away on a stretcher, with a black blanket covering him, and even its owner Luton rushed into the pitch to check on his captain’s condition.

According to the first update from the Bournemouth doctor, Mr Lockyer it currently appears to be responding and the news is positive.

However, the incredible thing about the whole incident and the dramatic moments experienced by everyone on the field, is that it is the second time the Luton captain has collapsed on the grass. In fact, the last time was just 7 months ago!

THE Lockyer had collapsed during last season’s Championship play-off final against Coventry City on 28 May at Wembley. He looked as if he had tripped and in trying to get to his feet, he collapsed! It then emerged that the 28-year-old had suffered atrial fibrillation, a condition that can cause an irregular or abnormally fast heart rate.

He underwent surgery to correct the problem and returned to football, cleared to play by doctors.

“I had the surgery to fix the problem and it shouldn’t happen again”he told the BBC at the time. “There’s really no reason to say why this happened. It’s done what it’s done but now I’ve been cleared to play and I just want to put it behind me and draw a line under it now and move on.”

Now, it remains to be seen after the new cycle of tests that will be submitted and if he avoids the risk, if he can continue to fight…
