An uproar and disgust has been caused in Spanish basketball due to a major scandal revealed by “El Pais”, as the former coach of the Spanish national teams, Mario Lopezis accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old player!
THE Lopezwho currently works as managing director at Guernicaa women’s basketball team in Spain’s top division, Liga Femenina Endesa, is said to have sexually abused a 13-year-old girl in a row from 1998 to 2001!
His abusive behavior began in July 1998, when Lopez invited the girl to watch a basketball game with him at home. It wasn’t an unusual practice for him, as he often invited the players he coached to his home to watch a film. However, the girl was alone at the time and Mr Lopez he started touching her inappropriately and abused her.
From that point on, Mr Lopez he constantly threatened the young lady not to speak to anyone, continuing his abusive behavior on many occasions. The teenager’s parents had problems with alcohol and did not closely monitor their daughter. They didn’t go to school meetings, nor did they keep track of her sports games or her grades — a fact that Lopez took advantage of, according to court documents.
