Senegal awards each African Cup champion with BRL 450,000

The president of Senegal, Macky Sall, this Tuesday (8) awarded the members of the national football team, which for the first time won the African Cup of Nations, with around 75 thousand euros (R$ 451 thousand) for each one. and two plots in and around Dakar.

Senegal, which welcomed the return of the champions on Monday (7) with a human tide in the streets of the capital, paid, this Tuesday, an official and less massive tribute to the athletes, who were received at the presidential palace.

Macky Sall, in front of several thousand people, declared that Captain Kalidou Koulibaly’s team had fulfilled the expectations of a football-mad nation and put an end to the frustration of entire generations.

“We dreamed of the cup. You built that dream and made it a reality. Finally, here is the African Cup of Nations”, he declared.

The Senegalese president decided to award the players and all members of the delegation, around 60 people, with the National Order of the Lion, and raise the rank of those who had already been distinguished in the past.

Players and delegation members will receive a bonus of 50 million CFA francs each (R$451,000), a considerable sum by Senegalese standards, in addition to a 200 square meter plot in Dakar and another 500 square meter plot in the new city. from Diamniado.

Sadio Mané, who along with coach Aliou Cisse received special praise from the president, spread joy throughout the country on Sunday (6) when he scored the decisive goal against Egypt in the penalty shootout of the African Cup final.

To try to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar, Senegal will compete for a place in a playoff against Egypt, in March. The Senegalese competed in two World Cups in history: 2002 and 2018.
