Her great satisfaction with the decision of the European Court of Justice European Super League Barcelona expresses with a relevant announcement that it issued. In this the Spanish club reminds that it is one of the teams that pioneered the creation of the European Super League and points out that with this development the way is essentially opened for a new elite football competition in Europe.
The announcement states in detail…
FC Barcelona wishes to express its satisfaction with the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) evaluating the work of the Super League as proposed by A22 Sports. As one of the clubs leading the Super League project, FC Barcelona believes that the decision paves the way for a new elite football competition in Europe, opposing the monopoly in the world of football, and wishes to start new discussions on the way forward should be taken by European competitions in the future.
Since its foundation in 1899, FC Barcelona has always been a pioneering club in the world of sport, leading the drive for more professional structures both domestically and internationally, in both men’s and women’s competitions, in various sports and from different social concerns.
Therefore, as it has maintained in recent years, the club believes that the medium-term viability of European football entails the need to create a project along the lines of the Super League proposed by A22.
A competition system that will address issues such as match overload and the excessive number of matches between national teams, that will work towards regulating the financial fair play between participating teams and that will put local and international players and supporters at the centre. This system must respect the functions and viability of domestic competitions and should be a meritocracy based primarily on results on the pitch.

In a year when the club celebrates its 125th anniversary, Barca wishes to continue to offer its experience and knowledge in various sports to propose solutions for current issues in elite sport. It therefore declares its support for the Super League promoted by A22 and encourages constructive dialogue between domestic and international football bodies, which has now been validated by today’s ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union. All of the above is subject to a full reading of the proposal.
