The Africa Cup of Nations kicks off on January 13 and important footballers from Europe’s big teams are expected to be in Ivory Coast. One of them is the goalkeeper of Manchester United, Andre Onanawhich will strengthen his national team Cameroon in the organization.
The paradox is that the footballer agreed to compete in derby with Tottenham but also in his first game Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations. The two fixtures are a day apart, with United facing Tottenham Hotspur on January 14 and Cameroon playing Guinea on the 15th. So Onana will play at Old Trafford before heading to the Ivory Coast capital for the opening matchday of the organization.
Cameroon’s federation has agreed with United’s management and so the 27-year-old he will “touch” the unapproachable record of Mark Hughes.
In November 1987, the Welshman played with his national team in Prague against Czechoslovakia. The end of the match found Hughes in a car bound for the airport and a private flight took him to Germany. The then Bayern Munich side were playing Gladbach in the cup and Hughes not only caught the match, but entered the match in the 63rd minute. So the Welshman played in two matches on the same day creating a record that still stands today.
