Sporar: “We have to play better in the coming derbies, we will do everything to win”

Statements after the end of the match between Panathinaikos and Panaitolikos was made by the protagonist of the “green” in the match, Andraz Sporar!

The Slovenian striker stressed that he and his teammates need to perform better to do as well as possible in the upcoming back-to-back derbies, while adding that it may take time for them to adapt to the changes brought in by the team’s new coach, Fatih Terim.

On his team’s win and personal performance: “It was a very difficult game for us, against a team that defended massively. We struggled in the first half, in the second we scored the goals, but we had to be more focused at the end, we can’t allow the opponent to miss chances in the last minutes. It may not have been our best game, but the win and the three points are what count, with the season still a long way to go.”.

On how difficult it is for a striker to stay fit and get the job done when needed: “The most difficult thing in football is to score, but at the same time sending the ball into the net gives you the most beautiful feeling. When things aren’t going so well, as they have been for me lately, it takes work and constant training so that you take the opportunity when it comes and do the right thing. That’s what I did today, scoring the two goals that gave us the win.”

For upcoming derbies: “It’s like in the playoffs, when we also play three derbies in one week. We will look at each of them separately, we have to be more compact compared to how we performed today, we have to play better, faster and we will do everything to qualify for the Cup and win for the league as well. We have quality. Maybe we need some time to adapt to the changes of the new coach and the change of system, but so far we are showing that we are doing well, with two wins and we are going for the best”.
