Greece claims six medals at K1 in Athens

Exciting duels, passion and tension composed the mosaic of the first two days in the international tournament Karate 1 Series A Athens 2024. The event is held in the Ano Liosia indoor arena with the participation of 1,100 athletes from 81 countries and ends tomorrow (Sunday) with the finals of the 12 individual categories.

In five of them, there will be Greek representation, with the representatives of our country claiming six medals, two gold and four silver!

At -60k. men o George Karalis of Odysseus Petroupoli defeated Finn Lehtinen, Georgian Mikelatze as well as Veseli (N. Macedonia), Jatotji (Japan) taking first place in the pool. Thus, in the semi-final he faced the Indian Sidiya, whom he won 3-0 and will fight for the gold against the Turkish Mert Halici.

At -61k. women’s Maria Stoli of the club MFT Brotherhood she left no room for any of her opponents on the way to him final. He easily overcame the obstacles of Negovanovic (Serbia), Al Kolaidi (S. Arabia), Uyümaz (Turkey) and Rosenlind (Sweden). In the final, she will face Jennifer Warling (Luxembourg).

In the men’s -75k we have double Greek representation in the two “small” finals. THE Nikos Drivas, also his MFT Brotherhoodwith three consecutive repechage victories over Asema (France), Mihailov (N. Macedonia), Van Teefelen (Netherlands) qualified for the match for the 3the position, where he will face the Ukrainian Eric Rakhozhenko.

Through repechage he passed to the “small” final of the same category and o Vangelis Seremetakis of the association AGS Periklis. He will challenge for the bronze medal against Petar Zabrorski (North Macedonia), after overcoming Dao (France), O’Mahony (Ireland) and Karas (Ukraine).

In women, Stelina Dzilia of AS Karate Lakkomas made an impressive appearance at -50k. and won the pool she participated in, with successive victories over Misovska (N. Macedonia), Agus (Italy), Cuku (Romania) and Mihailova (Latvia). In the semi-final, she was defeated by Irani Mohsenian, so she will play directly in the repechage final, claiming 3rd place

At -68k. the Constantina Peppa of Odysseus Petroupolis she passed to the repechage, where with victories over Abdi (Iran), Kerimi (Kosovo), she will have the opportunity to win a bronze medal against Ouysal Ezar (Tunisia).

The event is sponsored by WKF which will broadcast Sunday’s finals via Live Streaming from its official YouTube channel. The games will start at 10 am with the matches for the 3the position, while the finals will start at approximately 1:30 p.m.
