Tsitsipas: “I try to push myself and exceed expectations”

by

The qualification of Stefanos Tsitsipas over Lika Vance Ash was a matter of experience, as he emphasized after his 3-0 victory and qualification to the “16” of the Australian Open.

I remember myself when he was in this phase. Lika is new to the tour, he came very recently, I watched him and he played great tennis to deserve a place to play in Rod Laver Arena. Today he fought really hard from start to finish, I have to give him credit for that, he did his best. I felt that experience played a role today and I am very happy with my victory“, said the 25-year-old tennis player.

I had a bit of a numb start in my first two games in the tournament, so I wanted something different today. It’s not easy to come back from a set down and show your best level from the 2nd set onwards. I wanted to give it my all from the start today and show my passion from the first point. I tried to constantly push myself and exceed my expectations and I’m happy that everything went well” added the world number 7.

As for the fact that he is reaching this stage of the Melbourne Grand Slam for the fourth year in a row? “First of all it’s the people, the weather, the food… I don’t drink coffee, but I’ve heard you have some of the best coffee in the world here. I just feel like everything is perfect here. So far it is by far the best Grand Slam for me in terms of player experience. The atmosphere for the players is fantastic, the food, everything is clean and very organized, you feel at home here and this creates the best conditions to play tennis».
