Joel Embiid: The reactions to the 76ers center’s epic 70 against the Spurs

by

Last night (22/01) will be unforgettable at Joel Embiid with legends of the league cheering the historic performance of the 29-year-old who stopped at 70 points against the Spurs setting a personal best and surpassing Wilt Chamberlain’s team record of 68.

First and greatest by… the same one who dedicated 70 points to Kobe Bryant, exactly 18 years after the Black Mamba’s second-best performance of all time with 81 against the Raptors. After the game, Embiid also talked about his former coach, Brett Brown. “He’s done a lot, not only for me but for the entire city of Philadelphia… I’m glad I got it done in front of him so he could see the product he created» were the words of the last MVP of the NBA.

LeBron James offered congratulations while Kevin Durant couldn’t believe his ears when told of the event by a reporter at the press conference after the Suns’ game-winning basket against the Bulls.

They were followed by Pau Gasol, Kevin Garnett, Rudy Gay and 76ers legend Allen Iverson who wants to see Embiid win the MVP award again.

We have players all over the league who can do a lot of things despite being very tall, the game has changed and now you have to adapt. It would have been more fun if we had won but it was inspiring what he didVictor Webanyama said of Embiid in his team’s loss in Philadelphia.

Pandemonium apparently erupted on the field and in the locker room with 76ers fans and the Cameroonian’s teammates celebrating the 70-pointer, culminating in a photo reproduction of Chamberlain when he hit the 100-pointer.
