It will “run” under a new name AlphaTauri in its new season Formula 1 in the next championship. Now it will be called RBfrom the initials of… parent company Red Bull.
The team entered Formula 1 in 2006, following the acquisition of Minardi in late 2005, and initially competed under the name Toro Rosso, but was renamed AlphaTauri from 2020. The team now enters a new era after his 18-year absence team principal Franz Tost, who is succeeded by former Ferrari deputy principal and racing director Laurent Mekis.
From 2024 the team will be called RB signaling a stronger reference to Red Bull, which has used the team from Faenza as a… nursery for young drivers. After all, Vettel, Verstappen and Ricciardo emerged from there.
AlphaTauri is eighth in the 2023 constructors’ championship with 25 points, behind Alfa Romeo (16) and Haas (12), thanks to the very good performances of its drivers in the final grands prix of the year. In 2024, RB’s drivers will be Japanese Yuki Tsunoda, who is entering his fourth season with the team, and Australian Daniel Ricciardo, who replaced Nick de Vries midway through the 2023 season, returning after fractured arm suffered at the Dutch Grand Prix.
