Zouros: “AEK is one of the biggest clubs in Europe – I believe in our players”

Honor but also responsibility, especially due to the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the club, characterized the Ilias Zouros taking over the technical leadership of AEK Betsson. The 57-year-old coach emphasized that he has confidence in the roster, while adding that the results are important and along the way he will be able to put his touches on the team’s competitive profile.

“For a coach to go to a team in the middle of the season is a peculiarity. On the other hand, it is a great honor for me to come to work in such a large and historic Association, with trophy wins, and more likely at a time when it is one hundred years since its foundation. I am happy, that after years of cooperation at the level of national teams, I made the decision to work (exclusively) in a club, and I came to one of the biggest clubs in Europe. The centenary of the Club is a celebration, and the team should fight as much as possible to make the fans of the team happy“, emphasized the experienced coach.

“I have a lot of faith in the players we have. It is necessary in the process of the many games we have, to enter a different philosophy, so that we combine the results with good basketball, and the players are happy for what they are doing. First of all, not having much time, the goal is results. Along the way, we will have to correct some things and go in a different direction by playing a basketball closer to the characteristics of our players. Every change is difficult for the players, but also for the whole team. At the same time, change also brings excitement. I have experienced it, as a coach on both sides. And on the side, that is, when a coach leaves and the situation in the team changes, but there is also enthusiasm for something new. Players usually show a lot of appetite and concentration so that they absorb things and improve“, he added.
