In the show of Kyriakos Thomaidis, “Tuesday’s Appeal” on News Bulletin 247 hosted its member Board of Directors of the Association of Referees, George Spaneas.
The veteran arbitrator referred to the problems that exist in the arbitration and the KED, pointing to the head of the KED, Peter Freudfeld, who according to his own opinion, the EPO should have already dismissed as the main responsible.
Among other things, Giorgos Spaneas spoke about the foreign referees, expressing the opinion that it will not be long before they leave the Greek stadiums.
In detail:
“EPO should have fired Freudfeld. His absence played a decisive role. Referees are not in the mood to fall victim to criminal organizations. Obviously, the EPO which hired him also has responsibilities.
If a European referee was sued and his family members saw him in his country why would this man come again. The right way is for the foreign referees to leave. We surrendered ourselves unconditionally to it. There are no referees to replace some. It does not mean that because the Swede came and appointed Sidiropoulos or Fotias they will be afraid.
The teams do not accept referees already existing in the Association. Most of them don’t even know them. After hard work and suffering, the Association of Referees was kept. Now… bye! It’s a matter of time. I was very happy with the proposal of Aris, but also of Mr. Mandalos, for Greek referees on the pitch and foreigners in VAR.
The Minister must know what EPO means. To consult FIFA and UEFA in order to understand. No referee wakes up in the morning to go and “slaughter” a team. The arbitration issues can be resolved by consensus with the EPO”.
