THE Maccabi fought the Real Madrid but he didn’t “chew”! His team Chus Mateohe may have seen his fighting players Odent Katas to return three times, “gnawing” double-digit differences, but the experience and executive skill of Musa and Hezonia brought the victory with the impressive 106-101.
Fantastic match once again from Wade Baldwin which succeeded 28 points with two rebounds and six assists, with Colson and Webb to add from 25 and 18 points respectively. Once again top scorer for the “queen” was Janan Moussa who had 19 pointswith Poirier and Hezonia to score from 16 points each.
In the 21-3 record of Real Madrid, which does not fall from the top, Maccabi fell 13-11, which is currently marginally in the play-ins.
The match:
A strong start for Real in Madrid, as they managed to escape with eight points (12-4) in the first three minutes of the match, forcing Katas to call a timeout. The Israelis stepped on the gas, reducing the difference to three with Colson and Blatt, but with Hezonia and Poirier, Real shot the difference to 11 for 29-18 in the first quarter.
The second quarter moved along the same wave, with Dek entering the equation of Real’s game, at the moment Webb and Baldwin continued to execute, as a result of which they went into halftime with only a -7 point difference (52-45 ).
Maccabi reduced the score again to start the second half, with Webb cutting it to five and Real breaking away again with Hezonia making it 61-50. The difference ranged from seven to nine, but Webb found the hand and reduced it to three (67-64). However, Real with a crucial three-pointer by Sergio Rodriguez and an indirect three-pointer by Kozer closed the third quarter at +7 (80-73).
Maccabi didn’t give up and at the start of the 4th period it was reduced to four, with Real running a separate 9-0, for +13 (91-78). But Maccabi with an amazing crescendo reached the difference in the basket, 91-89, but the shots of Moussa and Hezonia decided the match despite Webb’s three-pointer, with the match ending at 106-101.
