Alexandros Katranis is a Real Salt Lake player as of today, as the MLS club announced the acquisition of the 25-year-old defender from the Polish Piast Gliwice.
Pending the relevant visa and permission for the transfer, the Greek ace signed a contract until 2025 with an option to extend for 1+1 years.
“Alex will bring a lot of quality to our left side, also giving us depth as we look to compete in 45-50 games this year in all competitions,” said Real Salt Lake sporting director Kurt Schmidt. Katranis is expected to take part in friendlies against Brodby of Denmark, Fredericton of Norway and Klaxvik of the Faroe Islands as part of the team’s preparations in Portugal for RSL’s Atlantic Cup.
It may be Greek to you, but to us, it’s a done deal.
Welcome, Alexandros!

“Katranis will compete immediately, bringing with him experience at various levels in Europe. We are excited to see how quickly he can integrate into our team and succeed in a new chapter of his career,” Schmidt added.
For his part, the Greek defender and 18-time international with the Elpidon national team, said: “From the first moment I learned that there was a possibility to participate in such a big league as MLS, with world-renowned teams and players, I was really on from happy
Also, the way the entire Real Salt Lake organization approached me during the negotiations was amazing. So that made my decision easy. I am also very happy that in a few days I will meet the coaches and the staff and I will be ready to train with my new teammates.”
