The end of an era for Las Vegas is written on April 2 as the landmark hotel “Tropicana Las Vegas”forecloses in order to build a 30,000-seat baseball stadium.

According to the hotel’s website, the new baseball stadium will be home to the MLB team “Oakland Athletics” and will cost $1.5 billion.

The hotel welcomed its first guests in 1957 and “starred” in the James Bond film “Diamonds are Forever”. while stars like Sammy Davis Jr., Louis Armstrong and Gladys Knight “left their mark” with their presence in the venue.

According to Travel + Leisure it is one of the last hotels of the Las Vegas ghetto from the 1950s.

As a final tribute, its guests are sharing experiences on the hotel’s social media accounts, while others are planning a visit shortly before its gates close. Accommodation costs range from $59 to $399.

“I’m glad I’ll be able to stay there before it’s torn down. It’s one of my favorite casinos in Las Vegas,” one visitor commented on Instagram.

It earned the nickname “Tiffany of the Strip” and was the most expensive hotel-casino built in Las Vegas at the time. At a cost of $15 million, inspired by South Beach by Ben Jaffe, it opened its doors, welcoming visitors to its three floors and 300 rooms.

Today it has over 1,400 rooms with commanding views and the ultimate sense of luxury, according to Vegas Means Business.

Two months ago Las Vegas celebrated the grand opening of the $3.7 billion Fontainebleau, the tallest hotel-casino in the area.
