Seventh place for Plataniotis/Malkogeorgos in the technical duet, the gold in China

by

Her seventh place occupied by Evangelia Plataniotis and the Sophia Malkogeorgou in the duo’s technical program, as part of the Doha World Aquatics Championships.

The Greek duo collected 245.9084 points in the final of the event, staying about six points lower than the preliminaryand fell two places.

This result complicates the attempt to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games, as our female champions were left behind by countries such as Great Britain, the Netherlands and Israel who claim the “ticket” mainly or exclusively through the duet, while some other countries, such as Spain and Canada can secure a place through the group stage (where Greece now has no hope).

The differences, of course, are small and the ranking can change after the free program, as for the Olympic qualification the sum of the scores of the two competitions is calculated.

The gold medal, for the second time in their career (after 2022), was won by the Chinese Liuyi Wang and Qianyi Wang with 266.0484 points. The big surprise came from Kate Shortman and Isabelle Thorpe, who gave Great Britain its first world medal in a duet competition, while the third place, just like last year in Fukuoka, was taken by the Spaniards Iris Tio and Alisa Ozogina.

The first eight of the final in the duet’s technical program:

1. L. Wang/C. Wang (China) 266.0484 points

2. Shortman/Thorpe (UK) 259.5601

3. Ozogina/Tio (Spain) 258.0333

4. B. De Brouwer/N. De Brouwer (Netherlands) 251.8633

5. Bobritsky/Nassi (Israel) 251.2432

6. Lamote/Simon (Canada) 247.1533

7. Malkogeorgou/Plataniotis (GREECE) 245.9084

8. Gonsalves/Vieira (Portugal) 236.8117
