Galatsopoulos: “The Super Cup and the Final 8 are important steps – there is room for improvement”

The joint press conference for the OPAP Men’s Cup Final 8 and the OPAP Women’s Cup Final that will be hosted February 15-18 in Heraklion, Crete, was held today in Athens. The president of ESAKE, Vangelis Galatsopoulosstated:

“The OPAP Final 8 of the Greek Cup comes at a very good time for the country’s basketball. The two leading domestic leagues, the Stoiximan Basket League and the Elite League of Erricos Dunan, are upgraded and highly competitive this season, the Greek teams in the European competitions, Euroleague, Eurocup and Basketball Champions League are performing from very good to excellent and the interest of of fans for basketball is increasing as we can see from the attendance of people at the courts. I believe that we will see an excellent event in terms of quality and competition, comparable to the Final 8 that we see in other European stadiums. The institution of the Final 8 is established as well as the institution of the Super Cup organized by ESAKE at the beginning of the competition year. Something that is particularly gratifying because from such events basketball gains new friends. Of course, the room for improvement for both the Final 8 and the Super Cup is significant, and we hope that soon even more people, regardless of club preference, will watch these two events, live the experience of the “celebration” and the exciting matches of Greek basketball. Together EEC, ESAKE will continue the effort for the even greater improvement and progress of Greek basketball. We have dared in recent years to establish institutions such as the Final 8 and the Super Cup and our cooperation is continuous in order to face the new challenges in an era where developments are very fast. It is very gratifying because basketball is one that alongside the Final 8 in the indoor gym “Dyo Aorakia” of the Municipality of Heraklion, Crete, the final of the Women’s Greek Cup will take place.
