More in a while…
The match:
The first attacks were misguided for both teams, with Greece having a crossbar, while the Italians managed to open the scoring with Fontelli (0-1). The “blue and white”, however, took advantage of the player above and drew 1-1 with Genidounias, taking the lead (2-1) with Giuvetsis, taking full advantage of Bruni’s dismissal.
The “blue and white” made a terrible start and succeeded 3-1 on the counterattack with Papanastasiou, with Zerdeva then saving, with the first eight minutes ending in the best way for our representative group.
The second period started in a similar way with Funduli’s well-timed penalty (4-1), with the Italians reducing the score to 4-2 with Di Soma. From then on, however, Greece suffered a blackout with the dismissal of Argyropoulos and the Italians made a terrific counterattack! They went down on goal (4-3) with Contemi and equalized with the same player for 4-4.
The four minutes with one less player proved disastrous for the typically home team, after the Italians made a complete turnaround with Presuti (4-5) and took a two-goal lead with Etsenike for 4-6. Greece, however, showed a pulse and before the end of the half it was reduced to 5-6 with Kalogeropoulos.
In the second half, Italy made it 5-7 with Damonte at the end of the attack, but Nicolaidis had an immediate answer for 6-7, with the “blue and white” making an impressive comeback, equalizing at 7-7 with Vlachopoulos! Typically, the visitors took the lead with Velotos (7-8), but Vlachopoulos equalized again, with Zerdeva making a terrific save at the end of the third eight minutes (8-8).
