Xanthopoulos: “Let’s stick to the coach’s plan to increase the chances of qualification”

The need to stay true to the coach’s plan in order to have more chances to qualify against Olympic pointed out Vasilis Xanthopoulos in his statements ahead of today’s quarter-final Cup.

“Let’s stick to the coach’s plan, so as to increase as much as we can the chances for our qualification to the semi-finals”said the ace of Peristeri bwin and added that his team must play a pretty good defense.

-Do you think that the Final 8 after last year’s first experience is an institution that helps basketball?



“I believe that the Final-8, having the experience of last year’s event, is an institution that helps the development of basketball. It’s a four-day celebration of basketball. I think that again this year it will be a successful event that will be enjoyed by the people who will come to the stadium, but also by those who will watch it on TV”.

-What are the points you need to pay attention to in order to progress to the semi-finals of the competition?



“We know that in the quarter-finals our opponent is Olympiacos, which is a very good team. We know it’s a knock-out game and to have a chance of going to the semi-finals we need to play pretty good defense which is basically our base especially this season and certainly in attack to have a good offensive night. Let’s stick to the coach’s plan, so as to increase as much as we can the chances for our qualification to the semi-finals”.

-What is your team’s goal in the Final 8?



“Going to an event like the Final-8, the final goal of every team, including ours, is none other than to win the Greek Cup. We are talking about three knockout games, three finals. So we have to show up ready and of course our final goal is to win the Cup. We have ambitions as a team and we must present ourselves in the best possible condition to achieve something very big which will be a huge success for the Club and for the city of Peristeri. Of course, the closer goal is to beat Olympiakos, which is the quarter-final, and to go step by step until the final”.

-How important do you think is the fact that it is organized this year alongside the Final 8 of the Men’s Cup and the final of the Women’s Cup?



“I consider it very important that this year it is organized together with the Men’s Final-8 and the final of the Women’s Cup, because in this way women’s basketball will be even more advertised, which in recent years I think has progressed and risen a lot at the national and collective level . I think this will help a lot and it will be a nice celebration for basketball.”
