The wish for Olympiacos and PAOK to compete in the final of the Conference League, which will be hosted at the OPAP Arena, was made by Yannis Vroutsis.
On Monday, a press conference was held at the Athens City Hall for the 100 days before the big match (29/5) in New Philadelphia, with the presence of all the involved bodies.
The Deputy Minister of Sports wished the two Greek teams, who continue in Europe, to meet in the final of the event. “The final will be a great achievement that Greece is returning to the organization of major sporting events. We’re coming back strong as hosts. The infrastructures we have built in recent years allow us to host such events. All this is a strong passport to attract more events. It is an honor to be chosen by UEFA. It is our duty to appear worthy of expectations. Greece has set the bar high but it can pass it, but united we have shown that we can overcome everything. After all, let’s not forget that sports were born here. The Ministry of Sports will contribute where needed. I hope we can see him at this institution Olympic and the PAOK. Greek stadiums in 2 months will be modern with the new sports law, omissions will be eliminated“, pointed out Yiannis Vroutsis.
The president of the EPO, Takis Baltakosemphasized: “Today is a day of multiple honor for Athens and Greece and N Philadelphia. Honor also for EPO for the trust shown by UEFA. Honor for AEK and Mr. Melissanidis for the AEK stadium which is worthy to host such a match. I am completely satisfied with this development».
The Mayor of Athens, Harry Doukasstated: “Athens will welcome thousands of fans from all over the world for the grand final. It is not only a top sporting event, it is an opportunity to promote Athens to the world and confirm the ability to organize world-class events, but also to showcase our rich cultural heritage, of course to strengthen our tourism industry».
The Mayor of Nea Chalkidona/Philadelphia, Yannis Tomboulogloustated: “My city will once again be heard around the world as the most beautiful stadium in Greece will host the final of the Conference League. It is a happy moment that the game will take place in our city which this year celebrates 100 years since its construction, but also AEK celebrates its 100 years. To highlight the refugee and where we come from because that is the only way we can shape the future.
I take this opportunity to address today’s audience and say that my city was sorely tested when last August it became the scene of fierce fighting that resulted in the loss of a young man’s life.
The new administration of our Municipality is wholeheartedly and in every possible way on the side of the State, the great PAE of our city, the AEK and all institutional bodies, in order to fight the monster of fan violence».
