The famous English magazine FourFourTwo (FFT) published a few days ago an article entitled “The 50 most exciting teenagers in the world of football”.
The list, prepared and commented on by Mark White, features five dozen young footballers – youngsters, from 15 to 19 years old –, presented in descending order, from position 50 to 1.
Brazilians in it? Two. Both from Palmeiras, the club that represented Brazil in the most recent FIFA Club World Cup and also the 2022 champion of the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior.
Right winger Gabriel Veron, 19, occupies 17th place, and center forward Endrick, featured in the Copinha campaign, is eighth.
Endrick, 15, is the youngest of 50 listed by the FFT. Here is what White writes about him:
“From time to time, Brazil produces a superstar that defines a generation: Pele, Romario, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Neymar. Endrick could be next. In five years, he scored 165 goals in 169 games for Palmeiras’ youth teams. The world covets him, and he can choose any club. He’s still young, but the first reports of his maturity, his determination on the pitch and his ambition suggest good things.”
The boy has already caught the eye of big clubs such as Barcelona and Real Madrid, according to sports media publications.
Regarding Gabriel Veron, who would have passed the radar of Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus, the author of the magazine’s text highlights his “strength, speed and finishing”.
With passages through the youth team of the Brazilian team, he is still a reserve in Abel Ferreira’s team, but he has had opportunities to play in the main team since the first half of 2020.
Among the 50 teens who promise to tear apart in football over the course of their careers, the FFT listed 15 English, five Spaniards, four Germans and three Dutch, three French and three North Americans. These are the nationalities that appear the most.
From South America, in addition to the Brazilians mentioned, there is only one more athlete, attacking midfielder Facundo Farías, 19, from Colón.
Facundo, Gabriel Veron and Endrick are also the only ones who work outside Europe – for now, as the transfer to the old continent, it is known, is a matter of time.
The top 5 is occupied, in order from first to fifth, by English midfielder Jude Bellingham, 18, from Borussia Dortmund, by Spaniards from Barcelona, Pedri (midfielder) and Ansu Fati (left winger), both 19, by the English winger. Harvey Elliott, 18, from Liverpool, and by German attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala, 18, from Bayern Munich.
Of them, Bellingham and Pedri are absolute starters in their teams and are part of the adult teams of their countries, having great chances to compete in this year’s World Cup, in Qatar, as well as Musiala.
