Garbajosa on Rubio’s return to the Spanish national team: “When I found out, we cried together”

THE Ricky Rubio went through difficult times due to mental health problems, he seemed ready to end his career, however he came back stronger after signing a contract with Barcelona and turned to national team of Spain!

THE Jorge Garbajosaa “legend” of Spanish basketball and its current president FIBA Europespoke about the moment he learned Rubio intended to wear the coat of arms again, expressing his great excitement at the news.

In detail what he said:

“There is a deep connection with Ricky and what he went through last summer was very difficult. We have known each other since 2008 and apart from being teammates, we are also close friends with him and his family. When coach Scariolo picked me up and told me we had a problem with Ricky, I ran to find him. I spoke to him, because he was in a difficult psychological situation. I made federation resources available to him because I had experienced something similar as a player.

When I found out that he wants to return to the national team, I was very happy that he told me a day before he announced it publicly. We cried together and shared an unforgettable moment. The fact that he wants to return to the National Team, as its former captain, is amazing! I can’t tell you how happy I am that he will be on the team and how proud I am of him.”
