The men’s national handball team jumped eight places in the European ranking and, from 29th place (68 points), is now in 21st place with 84 points.
The last three competitions are counted in the ranking, with the men’s national team having 32 points from EURO 2024, 24 points from the 2023 World Cup and 28 points from EURO 2022.
The 21st place for Greece enables them to be placed in the second capacity group for the first time in history, ahead of the draw for the qualifying phase of EURO 2026.
Greece in the draw that will take place in the coming months will have only one very strong opponent as the head of the group and two other teams that will be of a lower level.
The capacity groups for the EURO 2026 qualifiers draw are:
1st: Germany, Spain, Hungary, Iceland, Croatia, Slovenia, Portugal, Netherlands
2nd: Austria, Montenegro, Serbia, Poland, Czech Republic, North Macedonia, Faroe Islands, Greece
3rd: Bosnia, Slovakia, Belgium, Switzerland, Romania, Lithuania, Ukraine, Italy
4th: Finland, Israel, Estonia, Georgia, Turkey, Luxembourg, Kosovo, Latvia
*Denmark, France, Sweden and Norway have secured their qualification for EURO 2026 and will play in the EURO Cup.
